Description

Arthur Baxter was born in Collassey, Cooper of Fife and enlisted into the Fife Fencibles on 1 Nov 1799, transferring to the 1st Royal Dragoons on 10 Mar 1800. He served for a total of 23 years, 357 days, including 2 years awarded for his part in the Battle of Waterloo on 18 June 1815. The regiment famously took part in the great Union Brigade charge against D'Erlon Corps, along with the Scots Greys and 6th Inninskillings Dragoons, capturing a French Eagle. The 1st Dragoons suffered 197 casualties out of a total of 394 men.
