Description

James Pinhorn's service began in 1815 when serving as Secretaries Clerk on HMS Queen Charlotte; a position he held until April 1824. Serving at the same rank on HMS Victory 1824- 27, he was then promoted to Secretary, serving until 1833 on Britannia, Windsor Castle, St Vincent, Asia, Spartiate and Victory. Promoted Paymaster, he served in Rover 1833-8, Cyclops at Syria 1839-40 and as Secretary on Dublin and Ocean 1841-8. Pinhorn died on 31st October 1864 with the rank of Paymaster in Chief. During his career, he had served as Secretary to Admiral Sir Thomas Foley, Admiral Sir Edward Durnford King and Rear Admiral Thomas.
